How to access the NDIS
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can be confusing, but don't worry — obtaining an NDIS support plan is simpler than you might imagine. You can start by following these steps:
Step 1: Check your eligibility
To begin with, you must determine your eligibility for the NDIS. You can check your eligibility by going to the NDIS website and doing so. The eligibility requirements change depending on your age, place of residence, and level of handicap. You can always phone the NDIS hotline for clarification if you're not sure if you qualify.
Visit the Am I Eligible page on the NDIS website to view the Eligibility Checklist.
Step 2: Get assessed
The next stage is to have your eligibility for the NDIS examined. This entails meeting with an NDIA planner or local area coordinator (LAC) who will evaluate your needs and assist you in developing a plan. The assessment procedure can take some time, but it's necessary to ensure that you receive the best service possible.
You can start this process in two ways:
- You can make a verbal application by calling the NDIS on 1800 800 110.
- You can complete an Access Request Form and return it to the NDIS.
If you need help to apply, please contact your local area coordinator, early childhood partner or NDIS office.
Step 3: Create your plan
After being evaluated, it's time to design your plan. Your plan will detail the assistance you require and how the NDIS can assist you in getting it. Your plan will be created in collaboration with your LAC or planner and submitted to the NDIA for approval.
Step 4: Get started
You can begin using your NDIS support as soon as your plan has been approved. This could include resources like money for therapy or equipment, helpers, or other services that can assist you in reaching your objectives.
Keep in mind that the NDIS is adaptable, so you can always alter your plan to account for changing needs. If something isn't working for you or if you need additional support, don't be afraid to say so.
Obtaining an NDIS support plan can seem difficult, but with the correct assistance and support, the process can go smoothly. So go ahead and make the first move to getting the assistance you require; you can do this!
